We're the Essary family and we're exploring America one destination at a time. On this special exclusive episode, our January episode, we want to invite you guys to listen to our family's bucket list. We have the kids here with us. Today. We're gonna be talking about all the things that we want to do in regards to our upcoming full-time travel.
Let's check. Well welcome and thank you for joining us on this episode as we talk about our bucket list on what we wanna do whenever we start traveling and we have special guests with us today. We are bringing in the kids so they can also vocalize what they would like to do while we're out traveling.
And it is gonna be a, not really a lengthy one, but we're gonna get a in-depth look at. Kind of our whole mindset of going forward whenever we start traveling, of what we want to do, what we're looking forward to, our goals and aspirations as far as, uh, whenever we're on the road. So let's jump right into this.
But before we do, I do want to give a big shout out, a big thank you to our patrons for supporting us, for tuning in and listening to us every single week. So with us today, of course, we have the oldest one, which y'all heard before. Justin, uh, hello. It's me again, I guess. And this time we have Ariel with us, and they're gonna be bringing their look on our adventure from a teenager standpoint and.
If Jasper could talk, he would definitely tell us what he's looking forward to, because we all know that he likes to talk a lot. So, um, Misty, what are we looking forward to as we travel? All the things I wanna do, everything I wanna do all the things. I don't know where you wanna start. I mean, there's so many things I.
That we could start on. There's so many things that we all want to do, like individually, and we could just jumble all of this together, but I think it would be best if we just kind of break this down into simple categories and then we kind of go from there. Let's talk about our family bucket list first.
Okay. Let's talk about the the big overall go plan that we have. Yeah. I think the biggest major one is to actually visit all 50 states together as a family. Right. I think Big Mark. Yeah, I think going to all 50 states now, the lower 48 are gonna be pretty simple. I think it's something that we can accomplish for sure.
Um, but whenever you look at the other two, whenever you'll look at Alaska and Hawaii, those are gonna be. Not necessarily a challenge, but it's gonna, definitely gonna take some planning to do. Well, we've already talked about it, um, here on our Patreon account before of wanting to take an Alaska trip and just taking a whole summer and driving up there and driving back and just seeing Canada, parts of Canada while we're at it.
Yeah, I think it's definitely something that. We can get to eventually because I mean, everyone that I've talked to, everyone that has either been on the Alaskan cruise or that have actually driven through Canada up to Alaska says it's absolutely stunning. I honestly didn't even think about the cruise part of taking a cruise up there, but I mean, that wouldn't be able to stay in our RV if we did that, but it would still be an option.
But that's actually how I want us to get to Hawaii. Well, I don't think we can drive to Hawaii. We could try. I mean, not yet. Who knows? By the time we get over there they could have a bridge built. Yeah. I think Alaska and Hawaii will be, are the last two that we're worried about. The lower 48 will definitely be our main concentration, so definitely going on to hitting all 50 states no matter how long it takes.
I mean, 'cause to be quite honest, could you hit all 50 states in a year? Yes. Will you be traveling yourself to death? Absolutely, definitely. Especially if you're driving. Definitely. If you're driving, driving and we all like slow travel, all of our kids, wouldn't y'all say we, we all prefer to travel slow and bad Apple.
No, maybe not Jasper, not to feel rushed, uh, not to be in the car every day, things like that. We wanna stay in one place for a long period of time and to experience that place and not feel like we're being rushed through it. Right? Because I, in my opinion, if you rush through it, you miss so much of that state or of the culture, or you know, what, what that state is actually about.
Plus it just makes you tired. Makes you tired. And of course, you know, our biggest things is you're gonna miss the food or the scenery. What the fuck, all the stuff. Yeah. Taking slow and knocking these 50 states out is definitely gonna be first and foremost. Like that's our ultimate goal. No matter which direction we have to go in certain times or what we're doing, the the goal is to hit all of it, but.
There's other things that we wanna do as a family, such as visiting all the national parks. Yes, yes, absolutely. And we've already kind of hinted at it a lot, is we like slow travel, we like the scenic stuff, we like looking at beautiful things. And sometimes I think that no matter where you live in the United States or where you live in the world, sometimes you can get accustomed.
To what you're looking at every single day. And I think everywhere in the world, no matter where we live, is beautiful to someone. And sometimes we take that for granted of how beautiful our world is and we want to go see as many scenic as many beautiful sites that our 50 states have to offer us. And I think the national parks do probably the best.
As far as preserving that, well, there's a reason that they became national parks is because they are absolutely beautiful locations along with all of the, you know, um, unique wildlife that you're not gonna find in other places that are preserved and taken care of in this spot. So you're gonna see things that you're not gonna see anywhere else in the world.
It's. That's kind of why the national parks were made is to preserve that absolute beauty. And so, yes, you know, all of America is beautiful. All of the world has its beauty, but the national parks like it's that, and then some. While we're at the National parks, there is a thing called Junior Ranger program that we want to get, uh, Jasper involved in and any of the other kids that, that want to be involved in this program.
I don't know, I think the other two might be too big for, it might be a little, a little hold for it, but going and just, you know, here's the great thing is while we're out, like we get to learn either, you know, on site of all the different things. The national parks, like why is that National Park there?
Yeah. Like when we went to Carlsbad, I really enjoyed going through that little area, but like the little visitor center thing and learning about the caverns and how it was formed and things like that. And so I am interested of learning that in every, every national park. Yes, my family's got difficult.
Yeah. And of course our trips can never be completed. Without trying some type of food. And while we're at all the states, we're gonna become food judges and we are going to take the staple, what we believe the staple of United States is. The The Hamburger. Hamburger. What do you think of America? You think of hamburgers?
We just do. It's a food that is delivered that is cooked. Either at home or at restaurants all across the states. And the hamburger is definitely the number one food that has the most variations. I mean, even in Texas, the, the different variations of what have, what you could put on a hamburger. Yeah. I think we should try a hamburger in every state because a hamburger, I think is the most American meal that you can get as far as, like Jeremy said, all over America, not just.
Barbecue, which is kind of southern, but hamburger, which is very American, and try it out in every single state. And then we can finally say maybe who has the best hamburgers or something. And it might be us, it just might be Texas. I mean, just the different variations. Now, hamburgers within itself, it all depends on how you cook the meat and how it's prepared, the seasoning and all that kind of stuff.
But the toppings, I think, makes. The The difference, yeah, I'm interested in trying like the original Juicy Lucy and things like that. Yeah. Because I mean, even down here in the south, especially in Texas, like we have the queso burger, which is super messy, but super delicious. We also have the avocado burger I the guacamole burger.
Yeah. I mean that one's astonish. Astonishing. Yeah. I love that one. And so there's just so many different variations and. I just like to eat hamburgers. We were trying our best to like what kind of food can we do that every state does? And I think it only comes down to hamburger, right? So I mean, every state does most foods, but I feel like that's the most American when, when other countries think of America, like they think of hamburgers and hot dogs and deep fried junk, you know, especially in the South.
But hamburger, I feel a really good. American diner type food to pick. So we're gonna keep a running tally. We're gonna come up with some type of criteria of how we're going to judge every hamburger. And if you know of any state that has a special hamburger, like how Texas has a queso burger or a guacamole burger, if there's a state that has, Hey, you have to, they're known for this kind of burger, let us know.
So that's what we can try while we're in that state. Yes. So definitely let us know down in the comments. About if you live in a certain state and you're like, this is the the staple burger, let us know. We will try it and we will, we will judge it for ourselves. Yes, we will judge. We judge things and of course what every state does besides cook a hamburger is they have some type of fair or market and we want to visit.
At least one of those places in every state just to see kind of what y'all sell. What are y'all going for? What kinda home goods that y'all might have out there. Now, I'm sorry to say this, that we've already been to the world's largest one because it's in Texas, so we've already been to Canton, so make it it the largest.
May not be on that scale, but we definitely wanna see what every state has to offer. I'm always interested in the food when it comes to the markets. I'm always interested in the food regardless, so I am really interested in trying like, um, different homemade salsas and rubs and breads and cheeses and smoked meats and stuff from each fair.
Something that we can buy and use for longer than just one day and something that. Small enough that we can purchase, that we can carry with us. That sounds dangerous to make a present for whenever we come back for someone's birthday or anniversary or Christmas that. We typically won't be able to find local or in Texas that is homemade or you know, someone crafted something or there's some local artist out there that's just amazing and you know, we wanted, we wanna share it.
Yeah. We do an ornament exchange every year with Jeremy's family, so if we find something unique while we're out, then yeah. Maybe not for us to pick up and keep every state. Yes. I think we would overload our campers for sure. Yes, I think so. Definitely. Yes, we, we have way too much stuff. I, I'm afraid we're already gonna have too much stuff going in, even though we've downsized tremendously.
But I, we'll just, we will let you know whenever we cross that bridge, how we did as far as downsizing. But now we're gonna get into our individual goal list. So that's our family goal list. It's pretty simple. 50 states, national park, hamburgers, some type of fair market, but. All of us have our own individual goals.
Some of these are going to be together. We're gonna have the the same goal. We've already kind of discussed it, and me and my son have a lot of the same goals. And then me and Misty have the same goals. So let's start with Ariel. Ariel, Ariel, where would you like to go if you could go anywhere? Bake. Yeah.
Me bake the bake meal. Yeah, she wants to try escape rooms. I think we've said in the past what was her favorite thing traveling that we've ever done. And she said, escape rooms and out. I was like, we've taken you to Disney World and you just escape room, so you wanna try escape rooms, different kinds as we travel, like that's one of your bucket lists.
Yeah. Right, because Ariel loves puzzles and mysteries and escape rooms have all of that and a bit more. Yeah. That even might do be her mind. Yeah, that's, she's, that's what she's been wanting to do for a long time. So, and the crazy thing is, is me and Misty have never been to an escape room. The kids have done it with, um.
Grandparent grandparents but never with us. So us getting into an escape room, I've kinda interesting to see how that's gonna play out for the first time. 'cause we have very different personalities. Oh, ringing each other's name. Definitely. And it's gonna be a battle. It is Be especially good. Draw on the clock.
You gotta get out in a certain song. Yeah. We'll have a baby with us. Actually, the trick to a lot of the escape rooms is to forget about the clock. Uh. If you need to ask for a hint every now and then you can, but we limited ours to like three, but there wasn't a limit when, whenever we went to go to the escape room with, uh, granny and all of them.
So what else was on Ariel's list? I think you me? Yes. Anime Comic-Con. Oh yeah. You wanna go to a big Comic-Con, which we have been to a small one here. Small one in central Texas is where we live. When I say small, I mean like the size of a barn. Yes, it was extremely small. Um, but even whenever we went it was very entertaining.
There was a lot of stuff that we looked at and that we really enjoyed from it, and Ariel spent a lot of money at that comic coffee. She spend so much money on getting stuff. Um, so yeah, one of her big bucket list items is going to a big Comic-Con somewhere and spending even warm, I think back bad read our bike.
And I think that's something that we can all get behind. I mean, wait, wait. I have a question. Do you want us all to dress up at the comic Con or do you wanna just go and experience it? Go do your math. What are, do you wanna dress up at the Comic Con? She doesn't know. She doesn't know. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Yes, you might. You might. Who would you wanna dress up as? That's a good question. This will be discussed at a later time. There's so many good characters that you could dress up as though, so. Uh, but I think that's something that we could all get a behind and all go do because I, we all had to create wonderful time at it.
So. I wouldn't, I wouldn't mind going to a, a big Comic-Con, even if it's not one of like the, one of the national ones where it's in LA or New York, but even someone the, even the medium sized ones, something bigger than what we've already done, which is not gonna be hard to do. Ken, let's move on to Justin's bucket list.
So what's your number one bucket list item for our full-time travel. Okay. This doesn't have anything to do with the traveling part, but I do want to finish my game. Uh, which I should be able to get a prototype out by this year. Maybe not. Maybe I'll see. So tell our listeners of your game, like what it is, very, very briefly.
Like 30 seconds or less. 'cause they have no idea what you're talking about. I'm in the process of making a adventure board game with some hints of fantasy, well, not hints of fantasy, A lot of fantasy, uh, and. A few references from, uh, things I like so. Yeah. So he is been working on that for several months now.
Yep. Like a year maybe? No, not a year yet. Not a year. Close. Close, yeah. And that's something that he wants to finish while we're traveling. Maybe you'll get some inspiration while we're traveling. Uh, yeah. Yeah. What else is on your bucket list? I also want to go see a seaside or go to a seaside cliff, I can't speak, uh, where, uh, there's a cliff.
There's the sea. You're on the cliff, and you look to the sea. It's a seaside cliff. I don't know what else to say. I wonder how many different ways he can say seaside. Yeah, that is actually, it's not on my bucket list, but it is a view I am very much looking forward to. Indeed. Uh, another thing is to go eat some really good seafood.
Uh. I think dad also has a good spot to eat some seafood. Yes. So this is definitely on my bucket list as well. There is, from everything that I've read, from everyone that I've, I've listened to, from everyone that I talked to, I've heard that Maine has the best seafood. Now, if you think your state has better seafood than Maine, go ahead and write it in the comments and we'll go down there and we'll judge it.
We'll find out. But I have heard that Maine has the best seafood, like especially whenever it comes to crabs and things, and I definitely want to go taste some authentic real mom and pop seafood. I don't think I've tried crab before, so I'm interested in that. But yeah, my bucket list is small and short and I'm excited.
So question. While we're in those areas, you know, they do fishing tours and things like that. Would that be something you'd be interested in doing? Like while they're catching crab or doing whatever and then going and eating it after like a crab bake or crab boil? What are they called? Seafood boils. It's not, it's kinda like our crawfish boils, but it's like a seafood boil that they do.
Would you be interested in like the whole fishing tour? I don't mind fishing, especially if it's with my family and we're just kind of chilled out for, you know, a couple hours on like a boat or a pontoon or something like that and fishing where you can kind of talk and have that conversation out in the sea going fishing.
And So you don't wanna go catch swordfish or Natalie? It's not, not just doesn't flow at your boat, it, it doesn't. Although I do have people that at my work right now that have actually gone on those and they say that sometimes it's a great ful times and sometimes it's absolutely miserable. I. You don't know what the weather's gonna do.
You don't know what the waves are gonna be like. You don't know what the fish are gonna be biting. And so it's just kind of one of those toss up in the air kind of things. If I don't have to worry about catching the fish, but I get to eat the fish, I'm good with that. Okay. Same. Okay. And there's so many other foods that we want to try our, I specifically wanna try from very specific locations like the New York Pizza, like Authentic New York pizza.
Yeah, that's actually on my list too. I do. Thin crust is my favorite. Mm-hmm. And so I do wanna go get a, a thin crust, New York style pizza. Now we have a New York style pizza down here that, like Domino's and all those other people do. Yeah. It's, you just have to get it from Pizza Hut or something. And if, if true New Yorkers come down and would taste the imitation pizza that we have for 'em, we would probably start Civil War all over again.
I mean, our pizza places are good. It's just the only places that you can get. New York style of pizza is from a chain like Domino's or fast food? Yeah, absolutely. None of our, none of our, um, you know, individually owned restaurants serve New York style of pizza. They, they have their own versions of pizza that they do.
So I don't, I don't know if we can say that we've even had anything that would closely resemble a New York style pizza, but I definitely want to try a New York pizza at some point in time. Um, also wanna try a hot dog from one of the corner vendors. Gross. Now granted they have to go through all the health regulations that everything else has to go through, but I mean, you see it on the movies and you see it on TV shows all the time, and I'm like, see, I think I'd rather eat a hot dog at like a baseball game or something like that.
I feel like those are the kind of things that people want to do when they're not from America. Like I watch all these YouTube videos of first time in America and they, they won. Corn dogs from the gas station or hot dog from a a, a baseball game. He's watched it like two days ago or, yeah, so I think it's strange that we have similar items on our bucket list when we are literally Americans down here in Texas, though we do not have those little corner food stands that sell hot dogs like that.
We don't have hot dog stands. We have an abundance of food trucks though. And like taco, we have taco stands everywhere. We Taco stands. Yeah. Magic taco stands. You come down to Texas, you're gonna find taco stands instead of hotdog stands. So I want a hotdog stand. Um, and then I specifically want one of my favorite sandwiches ever.
I would like a Philly cheese steak from Philly. Sounds good. You can't beat, you can't beat the originals. You don't know you've never had it. And I'm just gonna go with that. And listen, I make a pretty good Philly cheese steak. Okay? You do. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Um, some of the other places that I would like to go that me and Justin are kind of on the same page is I would like to go to the new, the upper state, New York, Maine, Vermont area.
I thought you and I were on the same page when it came to that wrong ferrison map. Well, he wants seafood, so it's gotta be come from me. I specifically would love to go. In the fall just to look at the colors change. Yes. I mean, in the fall to look at the beautiful scenery that's going on. But even if it's not in the fall, just to head up there, because I, I heard that the, the rolling mountains and the rolling hills in there, it's just absolutely stunning regardless.
Okay. But let's do it in the fall will so that we can all mark off bucket list items. 'cause that's sort of my bucket list item. It'd be right after summer too, so I'm sure then. Fish at that point would be all the catch. So, and whenever you look at certain things, I mean, yes, we want to do some touristy things, but we're not trying to get deep dive into specific tourist areas.
Especially since, you know, Ariel has very specific things that she wants to do that are kind of indoors. Justice talked about scenic things. I'm about to talk about scenic things, and of course I wanna see the Grand Canyon. Yeah. I think places like that are just a given, but absolutely that's, that's definitely at the top of my wants to do.
Grand Canyon, the Big Bend, Yosemite, Mount Rushmore, those national park type scenic places that yes, every tourist needs to go to. Everyone needs to see it, and we've never had the ability to, to travel to those places, and now we're going to get that ability. If we're gonna see all 50 states, then we need to see those iconic, you know, wonders of the world type things.
Agreed, agreed. And my specific adventure thing that no one else is going to back me up on is I wanna bike across a state. It doesn't matter what state it's, I told him it should be Rhode Island. And so there's different, okay, big Texas isn't there. There's different states that you, you take a week and you, you travel all the way across.
You do like 40 to 50 miles a day, and then by the end of the week you're, you, you've crossed over Idaho or Ohio or something like that. And so I know that they're out there. I just have to find one and then plan it. So we're up there at that time. And then Misty and the kids can just. Travel behind me as I shot a bike.
This thing. Yep. Good luck. I have no intentions of driving behind you in a car all day with a baby, so, well, no, you would, you would leave whenever you wanted to and just get to the next spot and just wait for me to get there. Okay. Can you make it, we're gonna find out. I've been training for a little bit now, for a year, and we'll see what happens whenever we get on the road, if I can continue doing that or if I'll just turn into a blob.
There you'll say good luck. So those are kind of my big bucket list items that I definitely want to check off. Um, Misty, what do you have for us? Well, I really would love to go zip lining and not just in one place, but as many places as I can. I want to do, um, not like theme park, zip lining. I very specifically want to zip line through scenic locations.
Yeah, the adventurous things where you're going through a valley or something. Yeah, I think I could definitely get behind that. I'm not sure how our kids feel about that because it is, we're gonna make 'em do it. That sounds terrifying. You didn't lean. They're doing it. Welcome. You conquer your fear. They good point.
Me. Me. We will try to find a beginner's course and work the kids up. You'll love it, but it's definitely for me. No, just throw me in a danger. You do not. You'll be fine. It'll definitely be something that wear a mask. Me and Misty are, are going to be looking forward to, uh. We will work with the kids to, to make it happen.
Well, no will, I'm not sure what Jasper's going to be doing until he gets to a certain eight. Look, I'm gonna strap him to me and he's gonna go, we're gonna go go. We're doing it together as a family. We will figure it out, I promise you. Uh, and then another thing, I'm just looking forward to trying new foods.
Um, living in Texas our whole lives, we eat a lot of barbecue and Tex-Mex and, I mean, yeah, we get. Other things, but, but there's times when I hear of certain kinds of foods, I'm like, oh, I've never had that. I've never tried that. No one in the south makes it or something like that. I, I'm interested in trying new things that I have never tried before.
And yes, even throughout the states, that's definitely a thing. You don't have to go to another country to try something new because every state has its own way of. Cooking and eating, I guess. Oh, especially down here in the south. I mean, not only do we have the southern comfort food that everyone associates Southern for, but in Texas we definitely love our barbecue and we definitely love our Tex-Mex.
So anything beyond that, like we've already talked about the seafood. Yes. We have Galveston area down in the Houston, the Gulf of Mexico. But that's not, I mean, that's not really seafood. Yeah. I wanna try like. Cheese from Wisconsin, you know what I mean? Like that's, that's what I wanna do. Yeah. Like the staple foods, potatoes in Idaho.
I want to try and those aren't new foods. 'cause obviously I eat cheese and potatoes, but I want to try, you know, um, different, maybe something different than what we, how we have it here. Yes. Because it, I mean everyone has their own different variation or, or, or variance of. How they cook the food, what seasonings?
I just want to check out the, the different variations that they have on kind of similar foods, but it's gonna be different because it's gonna be a different culture that cooks it. Yeah. And then of course I already said I wanna do like upstate New York in the fall. I really don't wanna go to New York City other than I want New York pizza and I wanna watch a Broadway.
So like. Half a day, I guess, is all we would need in New York. Yeah, I figured that we're a day, maybe we're gonna take a train and we're gonna be an upper New York, so we're gonna take a train in, we're going to kind of do our little thing and then we're gonna take a train out. Yeah. Like I don't even wanna stay the night or, and then we could check New York off our list.
I like, I have no intentions of like. No, not intentions, no desires to see like Times Square or anything like that. I literally just wanna watch a Broadway and eat New York pizza and then head back upstate and look at the Foli Foliage. Foliage, foliage, foliage. Because as you already know, our family, uh, does not like real big cities.
We like the more, uh, hometown towns. Yes, to an extent. I mean, we do like big cities because we know that's, that's where the escape rooms are. That's true. That's where the attractions are. That's where that kind of happens. Disney. Um, but you know how some of y'all live in larger cities? I, I don't know. Well, I was born and raised in one, so we have question at the time.
I didn't realize it, but. After moving out and living in a smaller community, I could never full-time live in a big city ever again, but really good place for food. Really good place for food. Really good places for entertainment. Entertainment and shopping. Shopping. Yes, yes, absolutely. All those three things go together.
Yeah. Uh, our, our one, our main plan is to get our RV stay. On the outskirts outside of the major cities, in between the major cities somewhere. And then when we want to visit those larger areas, we just drive in for the day and then get back out of the as quick as possible. That is so true because there's so many different traveling that you have to look at, especially if you're gonna be pulling a RV through a major city of, oh boy.
One ways. Did you miss your road? How are you gonna turn around? There's so, oh my goodness, there's so many headaches that that could happen with traveling through big cities. So definitely staying on the outskirts of big cities if we have to, you know, go around them or camping outside of big cities and then visiting big cities, I think that we can do a little bit more as far as staying on the outskirts and traveling back in without us having to try, try to traverse the the difficult traffic that they'd have.
Tongue twister. Jasper, what's on your bucket list? He said, I just woke up from a nap. Although we each have our own individual goals and bucket lists, we have family goals and bucket list, and it's something that I don't believe that we're gonna be able to conquer in year. But um, oh no, it'll take us several years.
But I am so looking forward to the adventure. Yeah. From just getting out. And I think we should make this list a physical list and put it somewhere in our camper and like mark things off as we go so we can see our progress and what we've accomplished. Absolutely. That's something that we're definitely gonna have to do.
We're gonna fill with some type of chart, especially for the hamburger thing. Definitely just, we're gonna have to like come up with a rating system. We are gonna have to, yeah. Yeah. And we're not talking about getting a hamburger from Whataburger at every single place or from Chili's or it be like a diner or something.
Yes, it's gonna be a mom and pop local place that's there and ordering hamburger off of their menu as they would serve it to anyone else. Yeah. Jasper, are you hungry? Are you hungry? Usually he's like the. I know, I mean, he's just quiet. He's taken like 20 pictures. So we would love for you to stay tuned on our Patreon because we are definitely gonna be giving most of these lists and accomplishments and our judging of the hamburgers on Patreon.
And you'll never go, oh, we can do that. We can make that a Patreon only thing. You'll never know who has the greatest hamburgers if you don't pay attention. So be sure and continue listening to our monthly updates. Um, our February one, hopefully we will have a little information on how our whole house selling thing is going.
We should be in the process of getting that started by that point. And, um. Just keep your fingers crossed and everything goes smoothly and quickly. And don't forget to share. Send this out to your friends, to your neighbors. Uh, let them know what kind of abitur we're going on and we would love to have them as Patreons as well.
